Finding a good restaurant in midtown is like finding a water fountain in the dessert. It's probably not going to happen. I am an expert on this subject because I have the unfortunate lot in life of having my office there. Anyone who tells you there is good food in midtown probably also thinks that the Easter bunny is real (sorry kids).
I did happened to find an oasis in the form of City Lobster & Steak. The location is very convenient for business lunches, after work drinks, and Broadway shows.They offer a great prix-fixe at both lunch ($29.50) and dinner ($42). The dining room looks like a french bistro. You'll find lots of wood, red booths, and subway tiled walls. Servers are professionally dressed with aprons. The owner, Andrew Silverman, is no stranger to restaurants. He owns this as well as City Crab Shack, Campellon, and the recently shuddered but long running City Crab.
The food was all flavorful and presented nicely. They have every raw bar option you could ever dream of eating. The angry lobster was heavily spiced and drenched in delicious butter. The mussels swam in a deep lobster broth. The delux cobb was my favorite offering. The ratio of seafood to salad was 3:1 which is unheard of anywhere. It is filled with goodies like corn, avocado, egg, and crispy onions. I skip dessert almost 100% of the time, to the irritation of my friends. I have never had a taste for sweets (I'd rather have mashed potatoes for dessert). That being said, the creme brulee cheesecake here was excellent. The perfect rich & decedant ending to our meal. Deluxe Cobb- lobster, shrimp, crab, green goddess dressing
