TriBeCa

The Odeon

IMG_9518.jpg

Overview:

The Odeon is one of those tried & true Tribeca staples that has stood the test of time since being opened by Keith McNally in 1980. The space is a lively bistro with big chrome banquets, white table clothes and outdoor seating. It feels like old New York in the best way. The menu mainly consists of French bistro classics like oysters, steak frite, frisee salad and steak tartare. Breakfast and lunch are served daily with brasserie favorites like croque monsieur, moules frites and french onion soup. Great for a business lunch, group dinner or solo bar dining.

Bubby's

IMG_8998.jpg

Overview:

Bubby's is a fantastic diner-style concept that started in 1990 as a pie company. They have since expanded to 2 Manhattan locations and several in Japan while remaining a Tribeca institution. The vibe is casual and comfortable with big wooden tables and huge windows. They serve food all day and the space is consistently packed for all meal periods. The food is slightly more sophisticated than your average diner plates but they do all the simple classics extremely well. Their scratch made American menu includes favorites like crispy chicken biscuits, huge market salads, and breakfast all day like fluffy stacked blueberry pancakes, eggs benedict & huevos rancheros. This is comfort food at its finest in a warm space that feels like home.

Tiny's & The Bar Upstairs

IMG_7562.jpg

Overview:

Tiny's is as promised- a tiny space with a bar upstairs. The historical 1810 bi-level Tribeca townhouse features 3 small dining rooms and a cozy bar on the second level. Guests may dine for breakfast, lunch or dinner in the rustic & warm environment featuring tons of white washed brick and tin ceilings. Everyone inside is cooler than me, probably wearing a floppy hat. They offer an extremely solid menu of comfort food with a lot of unexpected twists.  The food reflects Modern American cuisine with Southern and French influences. You can satisfy a plethora of cravings with dishes like saffron mussels, burrata, cavatelli and Hudson Valley duck. The absolute standout dish is the quinoa crisp with chorizo, poached egg and chili aioli. Great if you want a casual meal with a relaxed vibe.

Yves

Overview:

Yves was opened in late 2016 from the proprietors of both Navy and Smith & Mills. It is a casual, comfortable neighborhood restaurant. The space isn't trying too hard - simple decor, nice for a relaxed date spot. The food isn't going to change your life but it is approachable and easy to like. Crowd pleasers include chicken meatballs, potato gnocchi, roast chicken, and veal schnitzel. For lunch & brunch they serve a good mix of filling options like a frittata, cajun chicken sandwich, and gem lettuce salad.

'Wichcraft

Overview

Tom Colicchio's fast-casual sandwich shop. They opened in 2003 and have since expanded like crazy to 9 locations. There is a careful eye on sourcing and preparation of ingredients. The sandwich combinations are ultra unique and they have frequent monthly specials. There is much to choose from including chicken, pork, turkey, and vegetarian options. A favorite is the chicken & cauliflower with roasted tomato jam, pickled peppers, arugula, and aioli on toasted ciabatta. In addition to sandwiches they offer a selection of breakfast, salads, grain bowls and snacks. Keep them in mind for deliver and catering options.

Adoro Lei

image.jpg

Adoro Lei opened in 2015 in the dive bar space that formerly held Antarctica. You can find the restaurant on Hudson Street in Soho. Inside the decor is more upscale and sophisticated than your average pizza place. The space is sleek, the lights are low, and the music is bumping Kanye and Jay-Z. Everything is as black as my wardrobe- the walls, ceiling, tables, and booths.

The food didn't change my life in any way but it was still delicious. It's your standard Italian menu of pizza & pasta but done very well. There is a fantastic variety of salads, shared plates, and vegetables to accompany your meal. The meatballs in the Adoro Sliders were the perfect texture and full of flavor. I love the truffle risotto balls because if you can't love cheesy-truffly deep fried carbs you clearly have no sole.

For the pastas, we tried two versions. The penne vodka was fine but not memorable. That's not to say that every menu shouldn't have this type of staple available for their less adventurous diners. The sauce was good and the little chunks of prosciutto were a welcome salty bite. The "lover’s purses" were special, filled with an inventive combination of pears, brown butter, walnuts & arugula.

Pizza takes center stage here. There are over 15 varieties of red & white Neapolitan style pies on the menu. They come with every topping you could ever want from traditional to new & innovative. You won't be disappointed with any of the options. The Pietro white pie with arugula and prosciutto was the perfect combo of cheesy/salty/bitter. Another favorite was the Medici with pesto, soppressata, and peppers. The crust is perfectly chewy and absorbs tons of blistering & char from the wood burning oven. If you find yourself in Soho craving a pie, I'd suggesting giving this a whirl. Here's what we had:
