People ask me all the time what my favorite restaurant is. I've traveled all around the world, I eat out almost 7 days a week, and I live in the most densely populated food city probably on earth. So, it's very hard to answer that question. I can say that no matter when I'm asked, Talde is always in my top three.
The restaurant was opened by 3 partners including Top Chef alumni Dale Talde. He hails from Chicago and was formerly the chef at ultra popular Buddakan. He opened his first place in Park Slope, Brooklyn in 2012. The team also owns neighborhood favorites Pork Slope and Thistle Hill Tavern. They have gone on to open Talde in Jersey City and Miami as well.
The decor is minimalist and casual. There is a small bar in the front and a long narrow dining room with an open kitchen & chefs counter. You can sit outside on the patio when the weather is nice. The space is lined with dark brown wood and random Asian wood carvings & trinkets.
The menu is Asian, taking influences from places like Korea, Thailand, and Talde's native Philippines while adding modern American touches. There are time tested staples on the menu like their pretzel pork & chive dumplings as well as their delicious kung pao wings with peanuts. They do an insane version of chow fun with fried noodles and incredibly rich & juicy braised pork shank. The Korean fried chicken is some of the best I've ever eaten- drowning in Frank's Red Hot and grapes. You will see dishes you recognize like pad Thai and Tom Kha soup but they are entirely re-imagined and presented beautifully. For dessert you can order a hilarious version of Halo Halo (Thai ice dessert) with fruit and Captain Crunch.
I'm like the ultimate fan girl for this place. I love it for a date at the bar, brunch, or dinner with a group of friends. I have never had one dish I didn't love. The staff is also endearingly kind and makes you feel at home. Here's what we had:
