I exited the G train into a nondescript area of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. A quick walk and I was inside of Speedy Rome for the first time. This place is so g-d cute, how have I never been here before? The restaurant was buzzing at 1pm on a Saturday. To our left 3 girls recounted the events from the evening before (shot-for-shot of fireball). The couple to our right was having an argument about the boyfriend's behavior this morning. Directly across from me, a woman sat breastfeeding her baby at the bar while her friend tried not to look painfully uncomfortable (I can't be the only person that doesn't want to see a stranger's nipple with my brunch, right?).

Once seated, we ordered quickly. The staff was sweet and lightening fast with our drinks HALLELUJAH. Per usual, we got enough food to feed 4 people although there were only 2 of us (I like a lot of variety, sue me). Quickly, out of the kitchen rolled some of the best baked eggs and pizza I've ever eaten. They added little touches everywhere that elevated the food beyond your average pizza or brunch spot. The pizza is wood fire grilled which gives it a deep charred flavor. The house pickled peppers they brought for the pizza were delicious, esp. because I prefer my face to be melting off from spice at all times while I'm eating. Here's what we had:

The White Album pizza : roast garlic, ricotta, provel, pecorino, bechamel

The Gravlax: grilled dough, fennel cured salmon, ricotta, red onion, capers, lemon

Baked Eggs: marinara, smoked mozzarella, mushrooms, spicy sausage
